The glucose strip teaches us that we can have specificity to the small molecule of interest through the judicial choice of enzymes. In this case of electrochemical glucose stips a range of enzyme and mediator  systems have been used including: GOx/ferrocene, GDH-FAQ/ferricyanide, GDH-PQQ/ferricyanide. This tells us that dehydrogenases and oxidases are useful enzymes for the biosensor developer whilst a range of mediators including orgnic, organo-metalic and inordganic mediators can be used.
