From Beaker to Strip: Live Electrochemistry with Screen-Printed Electrodes

Electrochemistry does not have to begin with polishing pads, electrode maintenance, and a cupboard full of glassware.

Modern screen-printed electrodes place an entire three-electrode electrochemical cell onto a single disposable strip, making electrochemistry more accessible, more convenient, and easier to deploy in research and commercial environments.

On 1 December 2026, join Martin Peacock of Zimmer & Peacock for a live, hands-on demonstration of electrochemistry in action. Unlike traditional webinars that rely on presentation slides, this session takes place live at the bench, where attendees will see real electrochemical measurements performed using commercially available instruments and sensors.

What Are Screen-Printed Electrodes?

Traditional electrochemical measurements are commonly performed using separate working, counter, and reference electrodes housed within a glass cell. While this approach remains important for many applications, it can require significant preparation, cleaning, and maintenance.

Screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) simplify electrochemistry by integrating all three electrodes onto a compact disposable platform. The result is a sensor format that is easy to use, reproducible, cost-effective, and suitable for both laboratory and field applications.

Today, screen-printed electrodes are widely used in:

  • Biosensor development
  • Point-of-care diagnostics
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Food and beverage analysis
  • Academic research
  • Commercial product development

Live Bench Demonstration

This webinar focuses on practical electrochemistry rather than theory alone.

During the session, Martin will demonstrate:

  • How screen-printed electrodes are connected and used
  • The advantages of disposable three-electrode systems
  • Setting up an electrochemical experiment
  • Cyclic voltammetry of a standard redox probe
  • Collection and interpretation of electrochemical data
  • Analysis of a real sample
  • Practical techniques for obtaining reliable measurements

Attendees will be able to see the entire workflow from sensor connection through to data collection and interpretation.
