At Zimmer and Peacock (Z&P), we often talk about our "full-stack" approach to diagnostic development. But what does that actually mean? In this post, we’ll pull back the curtain and walk you through our complete technology stack for measuring sodium in complex samples like urine, demonstrating how we can accelerate your path from a simple idea to a viable, market-ready product.
The Challenge: Moving from Principle to Product
Many companies and researchers have a great idea for a diagnostic test but face a mountain of development work: designing the sensor, building the electronics, creating the software, and managing the data. This process can take years and significant investment.
Our mission is to collapse that timeline. We provide the entire technological foundation, so you can focus on your specific application and clinical goals.
The Z&P Full-Stack Toolkit: A Live Demonstration
Recently, we demonstrated our technology in action. Here’s a breakdown of the components we showcased.
1. The Sensor: Your Window to the Sample
It all starts with our proprietary sodium sensor. While we sell these sensors on our web store for early-stage proof-of-concept work (Technology Readiness Level 3), they represent the starting point of a much deeper capability. Their form factor is just one possibility; we can design sensors tailored to your specific needs.
2. The Electronics: The Invisible Engine
Powering the sensor is a completely custom-designed analog front end and reader. This isn't off-the-shelf hardware. Every circuit is designed in-house at Zimmer and Peacock, giving us complete control over performance, sensitivity, and form factor. This allows us to integrate our electronics into your device's unique design seamlessly.
3. The App & Connectivity: Instant Reconfigurability
How do you turn a generic reader into a specific analyte tester? With our flexible app platform.
In our demo, we simply scanned a QR code, and the app instantly reconfigured itself for a specific test—in this case, "Sodium in Milk." This highlights a key feature: speed. We can reskin the app and generate new QR codes to create a minimally viable prototype (MVP) for your application in record time. This app, available on iOS and Android, is a powerful tool for early-stage development and field testing.
4. The Cloud Platform (Djuli): Data Intelligence in Real-Time
As soon as a test is run, the data is securely sent to our cloud platform, Djuli. This is a game-changer for development and remote monitoring.
Imagine running a clinical trial where tests are performed at multiple sites. With Djuli, the data flows to a central dashboard in real-time. In our demo, we named the test "Urine Test" and could immediately see the results online.
But Djuli is more than just a data repository; it's an active analysis tool. We can:
View raw signal data.
Process the data with different algorithms (e.g., a delta fit).
Apply calibration factors to instantly convert electrochemical signals into a concentration (e.g., mg/L).
This means we can work collaboratively with you to refine the data analysis, turning raw numbers into meaningful results from anywhere in the world.
Our Business Model: Partnership for Success
It's important to understand that while we show a complete, functional system, our core business is contract development and manufacturing. We don't expect you to go to market with a "Zimmer and Peacock-branded" device. Instead, we provide the technological modules you need:
For Speed: Use our existing app and cloud platform to get to an MVP incredibly fast.
For Customization: We can design a custom form factor, embed our electronics into your device, and build you a white-label app and cloud portal under your brand.
For Compliance: As an ISO 13485 certified company, we are equipped to guide the development of products targeting FDA approval and other regulatory pathways.
The Bottom Line: A Faster Path to Market
What we’ve shown is more than just a sodium test. It’s a testament to a fully integrated stack:
Sensors for detection.
Electronics for precision.
Connectivity for flexibility.
Cloud Analytics for intelligence.
This integrated approach de-risks development and dramatically accelerates timelines. Whether you need one piece of the puzzle or the entire stack, Zimmer and Peacock is built to be your development and manufacturing partner.
