In this module we describe a simple kitchen experiment for the analysis of wine, using the ZP Hyper Value Screen Printed Electrode and PalmSens’ Sensit Smart potentiostat.
All chemicals used in this experiment were purchased from the local Grocery Store.
This note and the accompanying video demonstration are intended to give a quick and easy introduction to the Sensit smart, screen printed electrodes and a first quick start in wine analysis.
There is an interest in the analysis of wine from a number of perspectives, including:
• Qualification/Authentication of Wine – The chemical profile of wine can be distinct and dynamic with time as the wines ages, especially with red wines. The concentration of molecules such as proanthrocyanidins, condensed tannins and anthocyanins change as the wine ages .
• Quality control through Quantification of Total Phenols – The total phenols in red/white/young/aged wines is variable, but the total phenols in wine can be measured by using electrochemical analytical techniques .
