Zimmer and Peacock is an ISO13485 independent contract developer and manufacturer of sensors and sensing systems, including biosensor for Jaundice and Jeuvinile Jaundice.
Jaundice is a medical condition characterized by yellowing of the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes due to an excess of bilirubin in the body. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment that is produced when red blood cells are broken down in the liver. In healthy individuals, bilirubin is processed by the liver and then eliminated from the body through feces. However, in individuals with jaundice, the liver cannot process bilirubin properly, leading to a buildup of bilirubin in the bloodstream and subsequent yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Newborn jaundice, also known as neonatal jaundice, is a common condition that affects newborn babies, usually occurring within the first week of life. This condition is caused by an excess of bilirubin in the baby’s bloodstream due to the immaturity of their liver and their inability to process bilirubin efficiently. Newborn jaundice typically appears first in the face and then spreads to the rest of the body. It is usually not harmful and can often be treated with phototherapy, a process in which the baby is exposed to a special type of light that helps to break down bilirubin in the skin.
